Week 33. Don't get too married to your dream delivery: Even if you're hoping for a vaginal birth, there's a nearly 1 in 3 chance you'll have a C-section.I do not have a problem with C-Sections. They save lives. I think they are a medical blessing in many ways. But I do have a problem with that statistic- 1 in 3?!! That's ridiculous. One in three pregnancies are not so severe they need emergency c-sections. We have just become way to highly dependent on C-Sections and just resort to them for all kinds of reasons that are not warranted.
Yes some woman cannot vaginally birth their child. Yes some babies go into distress during labor. Yes some crazy scary things happen during labor. These are the situations that call for a C-Section. And of all the births that happen every minute, you are telling me 1 in 3 are this type of situation??
No... 1 in 3 are more than likely situations where hospital staff are too impatient to let a woman's body labor- to do what it was designed to do. Sometimes that takes more time than we like. 1 in 3 are situations where hospital staff look at a woman and just assume she cant vaginally birth a baby bc of her build... even though 4' women in foreign countries push large babies out everyday and cook dinner that night. 1 in 3 are situations where women are lead to believe this is their only option... really? That annoys me.

You are so right! A friend of mine who was three weeks ahead of me in delivering her baby girl had her baby all natural. I'm talking the midwife, at home in a tub sort of way. She has the stature of a ballerina and her baby was an 11 pounder and indeed 2 weeks overdue. The baby was more than healthy and so was the momma!
ReplyDeleteWe talked about this very thing in Women's Bible Study last night. About how when a woman gets pregnant it seems that all the nasty things on the inside of the women around her seem to come out. They want to tell you all the horror stories they can recollect and explain in lengthy detail the pain of their cousin's cousin who had an aunt that knew a girl's pain. Why is that? Instead of building up faith they want to distribute fear and doubt. And this is where we have to shut up fear in order to protect the faith on the inside of us.
Like you said, C-sections can be life savers and entirely helpful for women and their babies. However, when I was in labor, I did not want a C-section. It wasn't my preference. Even so, my doctor kept saying that she thought I may have to have a C-section because Lilah was 10 days overdue. At 4am labor started and periodically throughout the day they would check me for any progression. Little to none was made and the doctor continued to see that word, "C-Section". I was praying in the delivery room and quoting every relevant scripture I could think of. I even played the cd I had made the night before entitled, "TIME FOR FAITH" out loud. By 5 pm the doctor came in for "one last chance". They were shocked to be able to tell me that I was ready to push and Lilah was ready for her debut. My dear friend Emily was behind the curtain and she shouted, "I know that's right!"
All that to say. Let the faith arise and let every doubt and fear be extinguished. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you. The same Spirit who raised Christ from the dead lives in you and thus you are more than a conqueror. Yay!
